Welcome to Mamie Lou Gross Elementary
The Bulldogs of Mamie Lou Gross Elementary School (MLGES) make their home in Woodbine. Partnering with parents and other community members, MLGES promotes the high achievement and positive behavior of students in a safe, supportive, and disciplined environment.

We love our volunteers and visitors, but due to the COVID-19 coronavirus and the measures put in place to reduce the spread of the virus, we will limit access to our schools and classrooms. Only faculty, staff, and a limited number of approved vendors will be allowed to go past the front office area and into the school.
Elementary parents will be allowed to walk their children to class on the first day of school, but the school campus will be restricted to authorized personnel after the first day.
FAQs About a School Volunteers and Visitors
Will I be able to walk my elementary student to class every day?
Parents will be allowed to walk students to class on the first day of school. Following the first day, parents will need to deliver their students to school by bus or drop them off in the car rider line. School personnel, with the help of our safety patrol students, will ensure that all students are safely directed or escorted to their assigned classrooms.
Will I be able to eat lunch with my student or bring them lunch to eat?
Until further notice, parents and visitors will not be able to eat lunch with their children. If your child forgets his/her lunch, you may deliver it to the front office, and we will deliver it to your child’s classroom.
May I volunteer at my child’s school?
We love our volunteers, however we are unable to allow volunteers in our school or classrooms until further notice. We encourage you to contact your child’s teachers about ways you can volunteer from home. Teachers are often very grateful to receive help with assembling special projects and may be able to send work home allowing you to contribute without being in the classroom.
Joining the school parent volunteer group (PAWS) is another great way to support your child’s school.
Will I still be able to pick up my child for doctor’s appointments during the school day?
The front office will remain open to parents and visitors. If you need to check your child out for early dismissal, the front office will call your student to the office.
Will I be able to attend special events at my child’s school during the school year?
As part of our reopening plan, we will not host large gatherings such as in-person award ceremonies and pep rallies until further notice. We are looking for creative ways to host these events virtually, so parents and students can still participate in a safe and meaningful way.
Can I meet with my child’s teacher for teacher conferences?
Communication with your child’s teacher will continue to be an important part of the learning process. As we are working to reduce the risk of viral spread, we will be hosting teacher conferences by phone or virtually during the first semester of the school year or until further notice.
Can I share cupcakes or other food with my child’s classmates on his/her birthday?
At this time, we ask parents not to send outside food or items to share.

NEW FACE COVERING REQUIREMENTS FOR CAMDEN COUNTY SCHOOLS
The impact of COVID-19 on our community and the measures our school system has put in place to protect against the virus have both been evolving since the virus first appeared in our county. Due to the increase in the number of positive tests for the COVID-19 virus, Camden County has been designated as a hot spot area in Georgia. After meeting with the Georgia Department of Public Health, Camden Emergency Management Agency, and the Chief of Staff for Southeast Georgia Health System-Camden, Camden County Schools is issuing a mandatory face covering requirement for the safety of our community. The Georgia Department of Education, Camden County Schools Board of Education and Camden County Schools System Steering Committee are all in agreement with this new protocol as a necessary means to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
The mandatory face covering requirement will be in effect for all students, staff, and visitors. Face coverings will be required beginning Monday, August 17th. All students and staff will be required to wear face coverings while on school campus and while riding on our school buses. Exceptions based on medical needs for students and staff must be documented by a physician and that documentation will be treated as confidential and retained in the office of the principal. Some students with disabilities may be exempt based on individual needs as determined by the Director of Special Education. Staff members may remove their face coverings when students are not present and social distancing from other adults is possible. Students and adults may remove their face coverings when they are eating or drinking, or other activities approved by the principal.
From the first day of school, many of our families have already chosen to have their children wear face coverings to school and we appreciate their partnership in working to keep our staff and students safe. We ask parents to provide reusable face coverings for their students, but we will be able to provide face coverings for students who are unable to provide one on their own. We are grateful for the cooperation of our students, staff, and visitors as we work together to keep our schools and community safe.
