Summer Slide

As summer vacation is beginning very soon, we would like to remind our parents about the importance of summer learning.  Research has proven a “Summer Slide”, or drop in students’ reading and math        achievements, occurs when children do not attend school during the summer months.  Like any other skill, reading and math require practice, practice, practice.  Here are two ways you can help prevent the summer slide with your child.

1.  jjUust 20 minutes a day on school provided software programs such as I-Ready (K-5) and Reflex Math (2-5) can be a great way to keep your child’s skills sharp!  Classlink will be available throughout the month of June.   Classlink directions are on the school website here: https://5il.co/2wz3y

2.     Read books daily!  We encourage you to utilize the public library and the children's summer programs offered there this summer.  Students who use summer hours to read books that interest them and are on their Lexile level have tremendous benefits when returning to school in the fall.  The Lexile "Find a book GA" website can help identify books that your child is interested in and are within their reading level.  Let's make sure our students have a good book in their hands this summer when they're not in the classroom!

Thank you to our families.  We have one more week of school, but keep these very important dates on your calendar for next schoolyear!

Open House: July 31

First Day of School: August 6
