Tomorrow is Dot Day at Mamie Lou Gross! Students are encouraged to wear as many dots as possible to school.
Dot Day is inspired by the book "The Dot" written by Peter H. Reynolds. In the book, Vashti does not know how to start her project at school. Her teachers encourages her to just "make a dot" on the piece of paper. This book encourages growth mindset and creativity as students learn how to make their mark on the world.

Mrs. Lloyd's 1st grade class has been studying place value. They have done a great job and decided to take a real-world approach. Students enjoyed using cheese-its(hundreds), pretzel sticks(tens), and marshmallows(ones) to represent hundreds, tens, and ones to build any number from 1-120. The class practiced and then used their fun, food manipulatives to represent numbers. As an added bonus, students also used expanded form to represent their numbers. Thanks to Mrs. Paul for all of her help with this activity as well.
