Our Pre-K scientists had a slimy good time exploring, mixing, and creating their very own slime! There were plenty of smiles to go around as the kids got their hands messy in this fun experiment.

Our 5th-grade students had a blast learning about volcanoes through hands-on exploration! They designed and created their very own volcanoes, then watched science come to life as their creations erupted! We loved seeing curiosity, creativity, and learning come to life as the students learned about constructive and destructive forces.

Our 3rd graders put their math skills to work as they created Base Ten Robots! Using base-ten blocks, student practiced representing numbers while building their very own creative robot designs. It was a fun way to combine math, creativity, and hands-on learning - and these robots definitely proved that learning can be out of this world! Way to go, 3rd grade. Keep building, thinking, and creating.

Mrs. Agee’s class had an absolute blast working on their fine motor skills today by filling the classroom with bubbles!
Learning and practicing important developmental skills like pincer grasps, hand-eye coordination, and breath control is so much fun when it looks like play. Check out these big smiles and even bigger bubbles!

Students in Mrs. Walker’s class had the opportunity to understand the question,
“Why do we even need to study language arts?”

Students learned that in today’s world, we are so used to relying on spell check to catch our mistakes that we have become very lazy with editing our written work. Students worked in groups to read actual newspaper headlines, figure out what the author intended the original message to be, and explain how the headline could be rewritten to show a better example of clear communication.

Some examples included “Sisters Reunited After 18 Years in Checkout Line at Supermarket” and “Panda Lectures This Week at National Zoo”. After realizing how silly the headlines sounded, students understood how crucial it is to choose words carefully.

Bus Safety Reminder

As our students settle into a new school year, we ask everyone in our community to take a few extra moments to help keep them safe as they travel to and from school.

Whether you’re driving through a neighborhood, approaching a school bus stop, or traveling near a school campus, please stay alert. Slow down, eliminate distractions, and watch carefully for students who may be walking, riding bicycles, or crossing the street.

For drivers:
• Stop for school buses when the stop arm is extended and the red lights are flashing.
• Obey posted school zone speed limits.
• Never pass a stopped school bus unless permitted by law.
• Stay alert for students at bus stops, crosswalks, and near roadways, especially during the busy morning and afternoon hours.

For parents and students:
• Arrive at bus stops a few minutes early and wait a safe distance from the roadway.
• Cross the street only when instructed by the bus driver, and always look left, right, and left again before crossing.
• Use designated crosswalks whenever possible and never cross behind a school bus.
• Stay aware of your surroundings by keeping phones and headphones put away while walking.

The start and end of the school day are some of the busiest times on our roads. A little extra patience and attention can help ensure every student arrives safely at school and returns home safely each day.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep our students safe.
